Messrs Christian and Ramage, two influential musicians from different eras of the Oxford music scene (whom many may think at opposite ends of the spectrum, based on their respective bands Smilex and The Relationships) met at the preview of Oxford music documentary Anyone Can Play Guitar, and, over a midday glass of wine or two, a collaboration was born. Lee Christian (also ringmaster of The Prohibition Smokers Club and local producer of a diverse list) creates the music – a heady mixture of Princely industrial groove, World Music art theft and Caravanserai-era Santana. Richard Ramage (previously of local legends The Anyways and Here Comes Everybody, a.k.a the Bard of Cowley Road) blows the dust off mysterious parchments, rediscovers lost writings, opens locked cabinets and sees what secret artefacts fall out. It’s all a bit like the first time you watched an Indiana Jones film... Sometimes their explorations take them to Zen jungles full of jewelled monkeys, sometimes to English country houses through which beautiful women wander alone, once even back in time to the sundrenched coast of (where?) , summer 1978. The mood swings from wistful through sinister to exultant; each piece a story that will feed your imagination and keep you hooked to the last word, though the ending may not always be clear...
