about

While this is Black Tish’s 2nd album, it was released at the same time as the first one, which had been finished almost 25 years earlier. The band was formed in 1988 in the Brussels area, making them one of the earliest industrial (post-)metal acts. Black Tish’ style can be described as a metal version of `musique concrete’ (concrete music), one of the earliest uses of electronics in music dating back to the 1940’s. In musique concrete various raw pieces of natural sounds which are then manipulated and collated together. In the case of Black Tish this is a mix of heavy manipulated musical instruments and samples of other natural sounds. The make-up of concrete of metal and stone makes the name particularly relevant post-stoner and post-metal. This second album, as compared to the first, stands out by a hellish guitar sound, and a more apocalyptic sound all together, with more vocals, and in particular demonic 2nd vocals by a 5-8 year old young girl. Old is a pseudo-cover of Viral Genitals, a song by the band’s 1st line-up that didn’t make it on the 1st Album. Musique Concrete is the title song for the band’s style. Composition, sampling and programming was done by Bob Coecke.
